“Respect” – Aretha Franklin
Balancing both practice and schoolwork is an absolute art. I swear I be getting really creative with where I do my homework lately—aka the bus on the way to a track meet or randomly writing a paper on my phone in the lobby of the hotel.
It is a ~talent~ just to get through class assignments while traveling with a team or having a limited amount of time to complete assignments.

I am a Missouri native, born and raised until my senior year of high school. I moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and that was a culture shock! Starting over like a freshman wasn't easy. There were so many different requirements for graduating from Texas than Missouri. I finished and graduated, but that was only the start of learning how to transition from school to school.

As an incoming freshman, I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in biology because eventually, I want to be a nurse. What I didn’t know was the amount of effort I would have to put in to get my foot in the door. OR the type of things that are required from students who eventually want to be nurses. The best advice I could give you incoming students regardless if you are a freshman or transfer that is interested in biology is to DO YOUR RESEARCH and get going on your certifications, licensures, internships, clinical hours or anything else that your graduate program is going to require from you.

So to begin this blog, I’m going to unpack my definition of love.

As we all know, things are far from normal at the moment. COVID-19 has drastically changed the way we go about our everyday lives. However, there is one thing that has not and will not ever change here at York College, and that is the love and care that is provided to the students.
