As an incoming freshman, I wish I knew what I know now. Over the course of my two years at YC I’ve picked up quite a few tips that could come in handy for you, as it has for me. Most of my time was spent around campus or in Thomas hall (girls dorms) so here are some tips that will make your life a little bit easier:

What’s good with it? Its ya boyyyy Trello V, and I finna drop some move in day knowledge on you ! Now I like to think of myself as kind of like a moving specialist. Being that in the last six months I’ve moved three times…. Yes, three times, but this isn’t about me and my moving habits. Sooo on to the tips

I was so scared to move into my dorm at first. I only live 20 minutes from my college, but I still needed to find a way to make my home not so far away. The transition from home to college doesn’t have to be as dramatic as it seems. With a few simple additions to your dorm room, it can be transformed into a perfect home away from home.

Some of my proudest purchases for my dorm room include my mattress pad, carpet, and fan (some major game changers in the dorm world). But, I have some even simpler dorm room accessories that will make your room feel like HOME.

You know that feeling when you’re in class and the teacher asks you if you have any questions, but you’re so lost that you don’t even know how to put words together and form a valid question? That’s how I felt when meeting professors and financial aid workers on my college visits…

I can’t speak for every college on how the try out and audition process will go. But, I have spoken to many different collegiate coaches and tried out for a plethora of activities at YC, so I feel like I have the basics down. Essentially, the sport is the same at every college. The difference is the people you want to play WITH and who you want to play FOR. I have a few pointers to think about before your college try-out.

I have been on many college visits and I felt awkward and sick on all of them. I can even tell you that I peed about 12 times on one of them... It happens.

At least now I’m an expert on college visits. So, here are some tips that I have created based off of my personal failures… I mean experiences, on how to survive a campus visit/prepare for a campus visit.

When people say that college will be the quickest 4 years of your life, they’re not wrong. My time at YC has flown by, but there have been so many lessons along the way that made me who I am today. I have learned what it means to be a community, that there is a greater plan for me, and that change can be good. It’s only now as I’m getting ready to walk across the stage for graduation that I realize how much I have changed for the better--and how much of that is because of my experiences at York College.
