I heard "the story" again last night.
Let me digress for a moment. All of us who work at and support York College believe strongly in our mission. At times, however, when you get busy preparing for Board meetings, representing YC on local and state boards, attending national meetings, you tend to get distracted. It is interesting in these settings that no one asks "how are your students doing spiritually." They will ask, "how is your enrollment." or "how are you doing financially." If you are not careful, these can become the measures of success rather than our mission of transforming lives. While none would disagree that enrollment numbers are important or that ending the year in the black is a worthy milestone, but they are probably not the markers God is using to determine the success of York College.

I was just blessed with one of those meaningful experiences that you don't expect, and are therefore the more impacting.
York College entered an agreement with the Nebraska Women's Correctional Facility to offer courses and a degree program for long-term inmates. Today Dr. Mountjoy, Dr. Seufferlein and I went to the facility for a brief program to present the 12 ladies accepted into the program with their letters of acceptance as students at York College. Although many of them will never see the campus, we talked about how they were now a part of the YC family. We talked about the mission of YC, to transform lives through Christ-centered education and life long commitment to learning. |
