Parents of New Students

Here's a list of things to-do and contacts for you as your student prepares for York University. If you need assistance, call your student's admissions counselor or the admissions office at 402-363-5627.

Important Dates: 2022

  • Tuesday, August 9: Fall Athlete Move-In Day
    • ​10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Includes Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country athletes), check-in starts at Mackey Center
  • Saturday, August 20: New Student Check-In and Move-In Day
    • ​8 a.m. to 3 p.m., check-in starts at the Mackey Center
    • 4  p.m. New Parent Orientation in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center
    • 5  p.m. Welcome Meal at the Larsen Commons
    • 7 p.m. Student-Only Orientation begins
  • August 21-24: Genesis Begins (New Student Orientation--Students only!) 
  • Wednesday, August 24: Fall Classes Begin
  • Monday,  October 24: Fall Day
  • November 21 - 25: Thanksgiving Break 
  • ​November 28: Classes Resume
  • December 14: Semester Ends and Residence Halls close

Finances

Financial Aid – If not yet done, complete your student's FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov. York's school code is 002567. A completed FAFSA is required before your student can receive any financial aid. Students will be notified by admissions when their aid is ready to be accepted in the financial aid portal. Need assistance? Email financialaid@york.edu.

Student Accounts – Once your financial aid has been completed you will receive an email with a link to your student accounts documents. Select a payment plan and complete these forms by August 1st. Need assistance? Contact Barbara Thompson at bthompson@york.edu.

Housing and Dining

Enrollment Deposit and Housing: After your student pays their enrollment deposit, they will be able to complete their housing form. Then they will receive a packet including info about housing, dining, and more. For more information about housing contact the Director of Residence Life and Housing at (402) 363-5718. Please make sure your student has their YC student ID number handy when completing these forms. It can be found in their acceptance packet. Need assistance? Contact your admissions recruiter. 

New student check-in is Saturday, August 20, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Mackey Center. Students will check-in and receive a Registration Card. Once completed, the Registration Card is their ticket to move into their residence hall.

***If your student is an athlete on one of our fall sports teams (includes volleyball, soccer, and cross country), they will check in on August 9 at 10 a.m. in  Mackey Center***

Academics

Registering for Classes – After your student has received an acceptance notice from admissions and paid the enrollment deposit, they can register classes. Contact your enrollment counselor at 402-363-5627 to make further arrangements.

Textbooks  Textbooks will be provided for all students as part of the tuition package. Textbooks will be picked up at the campus bookstore during new student orientation.

School Supplies –  A personal laptop or computer is highly recommended for your student to complete homework and other assignments. The Microsoft 360 package is provided to enrolled students. Other school supplies that may be needed include notebooks, pens, pencils, stapler, backpack, calculator, jump drives, etc.
