New students arrived on campus last Saturday, bringing with them their hopes and dreams for the future, as well as cars piled high with clothes, computers, and other dorm-life necessities.

Several athletic teams that had arrived a week early for practice were ready to help freshmen and transfer students unload vehicles and set up their rooms. An evening picnic meal at the Larsen Commons and a devotional on the steps of McGehee welcomed the students and their families to campus.

It was a busy orientation schedule Sunday through Tuesday for new students, including service projects, a retreat, and fun welcome activities.

Returning students made their way back to campus on Tuesday in time for a tailgate party and the first soccer game of the season. The men's team faced off against Mount Marty College. The home team proved victorious, as they pulled out an 8-1 win that included an impressive hat trick and two other goals by Matheaus Olivera. The evening concluded with a movie on the steps of McGehee.

Opening chapel (video) was held on Wednesday, August 24. President Steve Eckman welcomed back students and pronounced the 127 academic year at York College officially open.

On Thursday night, the community gave their welcome with a Community Fair, including freebies and a picnic dinner on the courthouse lawn. Students met local business people to see what services, products, and job opportunities are available to them in town.
