York University concluded its “True Blue Challenge” on June 30. A group of anonymous donors set the goal for the True Blue Challenge by issuing a $500,000 challenge grant, pledging to match every gift made to fund YU Scholarships dollar for dollar. Thanks to the generosity of York University’s alumni and friends, the campaign successfully surpassed the target and raised $549,000. With the matching funds, the campaign totaled an impactful $1,049,000!

The True Blue Challenge began in September 2024. Most donations were earmarked for the York University Scholarship Fund, but donors were also able to designate their gift for the Second Chance Education Program, a fund that benefits YU students at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women.

Reflecting on his YU experience, recent graduate Ryan Romero expressed deep gratitude for the donors whose generosity provided scholarships that made his journey possible. “I would like to thank them from the deepest depths of my soul. If ever there was a moment in time when you hoped that maybe just one person could grow in their faith at their time in York, I can say I was that person. Because of the path that you laid and the foundation that was created, my opportunity to pursue God in the most beautiful way I could imagine was made possible.” Read Ryan's story in the upcoming Heritage magazine.

With an average scholarship award of at least $14,000, the funds raised by the True Blue Challenge will be able to touch and change the lives of more than 70 students.

“Simply put, without your gifts, many students wouldn't have the chance to be here,” said Executive Vice President Jared Stark. “I know from my many years here that being at York University changes hearts and minds for Jesus. For those who come knowing Jesus, their faith is strengthened. For those raised never hearing about Jesus, they meet Him in a powerful way. Your gifts make all that possible.”
