York College recognized longtime York resident Scott Koch with the Good Neighbor award Friday in chapel.
For many years, Koch has worked with YC Athletics and the Department of Education in several important capacities. He has served as an official or coordinated the officials for hundreds of basketball and baseball games. He also worked with education majors in their student teaching experience as a mentor within York Public Schools.
Additionally, Koch was a part of organizing the Leadership York program and was intentional about involving the college.
“This award is very special to me,” said Koch receiving the plaque in chapel. “York
College has had a wonderful influence on our city and state and on the lives of young
people.”
Vice President for Athletics and Retention Jared Stark presented the award, commenting on the support Koch has provided in the community.
Koch was the principal of York High School for 17 years. Prior to that, he taught and coached in the Omaha area. His wife, Ruth, taught in the York Public Schools for many years.
