Thirty minutes prior to the meal, business professors, Dr. Stacie Turnbull, Nick DiToro and Tim Lewis reviewed basic manners and proper business behavior with the students. As guests arrived, students were encouraged to interact and apply their knowledge as well as seek further advice.
“We can talk about these things in the classroom but it’s important that students have opportunities to practice those skills,” Turnbull said. “Some students have never experienced a meal in a formal setting, it’s important that we give them that opportunity as we equip them for a future in the business world.” In addition to York College faculty and staff, community members with experience in business management, research, agriculture, and service attended the dinner giving students a variety of experiences to learn from. Students received helpful tips to remember for the future. “The biggest tip I received was to try and remember people's names as well as something personal, such as their kid's name,” said freshman Caden Morris. “One tip that stuck with me was letting the host of the meal set the tone,” added sophomore Kitra Cody. “It makes sense, but I have never thought of it.” Both the students and professors felt the event was successful and look forward to seeing it’s growth in the future.
