York College welcomed several hundred guests to campus over its annual Homecoming
and Panther Days weekend, October 18-20. Alumni returned to campus to relive their
great college memories, while prospective students and their families visited to see
all that York College has to offer.
The weekend schedule was extra busy including the theatre department’s Rumors, alumni reception, chapel, a choir concert, a conference volleyball victory, and back-to-back wins from the women’s and men’s basketball teams.
The weekend also featured the York College Athletic Hall of Fame induction of Brian Kohlscheen ’78, Charles Byrd ’86, and Tiffany (Sparks’97) Baum. Friday afternoon’s Homecoming Golf Scramble was won by the class of 1984 and raised $300 for the golf program. It was followed that evening by the President’s Reception for all alumni.

Homecoming Chapel was well attended as Steddon Sikes ’84 led the singing and Scott
Lambert ’79 gave the early morning’s address. Chapel was followed by a moving Concert
Choir performance which included alumni joining students on the risers for the traditional
closing songs. Following the concert, the Goben Family was honored with the Legacy Award. At the Alumni Awards Luncheon John and Ellen (Whitman) Lucas ’66 were honored as
Alumni of the Year, and Dr. Aimee (Burney) Piller ’04 and Ben Smail ’12 were recognized as Young Alumnus of the Year. The 2019 Servant Leader Award was then presented posthumously to Norman Morrow ’63.

Pictured above are this year's queen and king: Melanie Wells and Davi Mendonca. Melanie is a Biblical Studies major from Nashville Tennessee. She is the daughter of Robert and Kathy Wells. She has been involved in Delta Chi Alpha, York Campus Ministries, Residence Life, Songfest, a member on the PR Squad, and joined the cheer team this year. Davi is a Sports Management/Business Administration major with a minor in Psychology from Fortaleza, Brazil. He is the son of Miere Martins. Davi has been involved on the soccer team, Student Government, Residence Life, Kyodai Social Club and the Respect For All Task Force. Senior candidates for queen were Hannah Anderson of York, Neb., Lydia Kirchhoff of Deshler, Neb., and Olivia Nabb of Lincoln, Neb. King candidates were Josh Anderson of St. Louis, Mo., Christian Eggar of Miles City, Mont., and Cole Satterfield of Broomfield, Colo. Attendants honored from the freshmen class: Brooke Barker of Fort Smith, Ark., and Jordan Strong of Bellevue, Neb. sophomores: Myya Maxwell of Columbia, Mo., and Sebastian Barreto of Mount Dora, Fla., and juniors: Taylor O’Brien of Aurora, Colo., and Diego Korol of Santiago, Chile,
Besides class reunions and suppers that went long into the night, Brian and Teresa (Phipps) Showen '84 and Aleshia (Showen) O'Neal '85 organized an evening of praise and worship led by the alumni of Gospel Messengers. The reunion concert took place in the Prayer Chapel and was a blessing to everyone in attendance.
