![]() The York College Drama Department will present the annual Emerging Director One Acts on November 10 and 11. These student-directed plays will take place in Gurganus Hall in the Scene Shop Theatre (10th & Kiplinger). The first show of the evening is Cut, a comedy directed by junior theatre major Ryan Harrison. Cut is the story of a play within a play, within a play, within a play! Things get very confusing as the cast of the plays forget who they are and who they are supposed to be. Harrison is a junior theatre major from Bozeman, Montana. “I didn’t expect as much help as I received,” says Harrison of his directing debut. “I thought I was on an island and would have to build my own raft, but everyone was very supportive.”
Deidre Freitas took on a challenge with her production, Nora’s Lost. This drama about the life and memories of a woman with dementia boasts a twenty person cast. With dreams of directing professionally, Freitas says, “No two people experience things the same way, but who we are is made of the experiences we’ve had. Nora’s Lost reminds me that it is important to express what we’re feeling.” Freitas is a junior theatre major from McCool Junction. She is active with the Yorkshire Playhouse Children’s Theatre program. The Emerging Director One Acts will be held at 7:30 p.m. on November 10 and 11. There is no cost for admission and seating is general admission. These shows may not be suitable for children under the age of 13. Comments are closed.
