York College recognized eight students in chapel this morning as nominees for the Mr. and Ms. YC awards, presented annually at the All-School Banquet (April 16). Faculty and staff nominated these students based on their positive contributions across campus and their commitment to the mission, purpose and core values of York College.

Nominees for the 2019 honor include:  Asa Coppinger, Colby Smith, Dylan Odom, Adrianna Sotolongo, Shania Brown, Trevor Lenear, Clay Lube, and Courtney Gibbs.

Colby Smith

Colby is a vocal music education and vocal performance major from Elgin, Iowa. During her time at York College, she has been a part of the choir, Celebration Singers, Songfest, Campus PR Squad, Beta Beta Sigma, and student government. Colby has been included on the Dean’s List and has served as Songfest Hostess. Upon graduation, Colby will be teaching music at Pershing Elementary in Lexington, Nebraska.

Adrianna Sotolongo​

Adrianna is a criminal justice major from Fontana, California. During her time at York College, she has been involved in choir, Delta Chi Alpha, Celebration Singers, dance team, Campus PR Squad, student government, Songfest, theatre, and was a counselor for both Presidential Leadership Institute and Soul Quest. After helping her club to victory last year as a Songfest rep, Adrianna is serving as a Songfest Hostess in 2019.  She has been the recipient of the Sertoma Award for her participation on the dance team. After graduation, Adrianna will travel to Vienna for a study abroad experience, then will start working in York.

Courtney Gibbs

Courtney is an accounting major from Edmond, Oklahoma. Courtney has been a part of the dance team, choir, PBL, Delta Chi Alpha, student activity board, and residence life as an RA. Her acdemic record has earned her  Dean’s List honors. She has also been recognized with the Champion of Character award, and was a part of the dance team that earned 2nd team all-conference in the KCAC. After graduation, Courtney plans to pursue an MBA at Oklahoma Christian University.

Shania Brown

​Shania is a special education and elementary education major from Chappell, Nebraska. Shania has been involved in Delta Chi Alpha, Campus PR Squad, education club, and student activities board. In her time at YC, she has been on Homecoming Court twice and held officer positions in various activities and clubs. After graduation, Shania will start teaching special education at the middle school in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Trevor Lenear

Trevor is a special education major from Bellevue, Nebraska. During his time at York College, he has been a member of the men’s basketball team, campus ministries,  student activities board, and Sigma Tau. Trevor's honors include Student-Athlete of the Year (2018), All-Conference Honorable Mention, All-Conference Tournament Team, and Homecoming King. After Trevor graduated in December 2018 he continued to work at Bellevue East High School where he student taught. He is also an assistant basketball and golf coach there.

Dylan Odom

Dylan is a business major with an emphasis in sports management from York, Nebraska. During his time at York College, he was a part of Sigma Tau, served as the manager for the track and field team, spent each summer working as a traveling camp counselor, and was a part of Songfest every year. Dylan has served as a Songfest rep four times and was Sigma Tau vice president. He appeared on the Homecoming Court his sophomore and senior years.

Clay Lube
Clay is a sports management major from Lincoln. Nebraska. Clay has been a part of baseball, residence life as an RA, campus ministries, and claims to be the first person to be a part of every single social club. He has appeared on the Dean’s List and was crowned Homecoming King in 2018.

Asa Coppinger

Asa is a business communications major from York, Nebraska. Asa has been a part of the men’s soccer team, choir, Sigma Tau, Songfest, traveling camps, Celebration Singers, and residence hall staff. While at York College, he has been recognized with multiple awards: PHD award and reserve team MVP (soccer), Dean’s List, Sertoma Award, C3 Character award, and NAIA Daktronics award, homecoming court, Songfest Rep, Songfest Host, Social Club President, and he won the best costume at a Halloween party one time. After graduation, Asa has plans to pursue his passion for videography.
