Dr. Mike Armour will be the featured speaker at York College’s spring commencement ceremony,  Saturday, April 27. He is the managing principal of Strategic Leadership Development International, which he founded in 2001. Since then he has coached or mentored over 600 executives and trained thousands more, many in some of America’s largest corporations. In addition, his firm has subsidiary operations in Africa, where he trains senior government officials.

Through his entire career, Dr. Armour has combined full-time or part-time ministry with whatever else he was pursuing. He has 57 years of pulpit experience, including churches in Kentucky, California, and Texas.

Dr. Armour was formerly Dean of Students, professor of Bible, and Director of Church Relations at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. He then served as president of Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon from 1982-1986. For five years he was president of Eastern European Mission, which annually distributes a million Bibles and biblically related books in former nations of the Soviet Union. Dr. Armour currently serves as a trustee of York College, where he chairs the board’s Advancement Committee.

Dr. Armour is a retired Navy captain in the field of intelligence, with 35 years of active duty and reserve service. He holds degrees from five colleges and universities, including a Ph.D. from UCLA. The author of eleven books, he has been published in two dozen languages.

Over two million copies of his book, A Newcomer’s Guide to the Bible, are currently in circulation worldwide. Ukraine, as well as five other regions of Russia, has adopted the book as a national high school textbook. Another book, his Bible Stories for Young Readers, is used by hundreds of schools in Slavic-language areas to teach elementary students how to read.

Commencement exercises will be held in the Campbell Student Activity Center (10th and Mayhew Ave) on the York College campus. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. The doors open one hour prior to the ceremony for guests. No tickets are required. The event is open to the public, with seating on a first come first served basis. No reserved seating is permitted, with the exception of seating arranged before the event for individuals with special needs.
