Brian Gilchriest, a 2001 graduate of York College, will return to his alma mater this summer as the newest member of the York University education department, according to recently appointed provost, Dr. Billy Lones.

​Gilchriest has taught and coached for 10 years in public school systems in Keller and Cypress, Texas.  He has taught middle school earth science and high school integrated physics and chemistry as well as biology, both honors and advanced.  In addition he has served on the basketball coaching staffs at all the schools where he has taught.  Gilchriest earned a degree in secondary education with an emphasis in biology at YC and was a four-year letterman on the Panther basketball team.

"We are delighted to welcome Brian back to the YC campus to join our education faculty," Lones said. "He was a well-rounded student here who represented the college in an excellent way, both in the classroom and on the basketball court.  His years of experience teaching in highly regarded school systems in the Ft. Worth and Houston areas will serve him well as he seeks to educate and motivate the YC students planning to be the next generation of school teachers."
 
Gilchriest earned a masters degree in educational leadership in 2020 at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  He is a native of North Richland Hills, Texas, and attended Richland High School in the Ft. Worth area and was an outstanding student-athlete who lettered three years in track and basketball.   
 
"I am excited to have the opportunity to give back to my alma mater and to mold America's educators for the future," Gilchriest said.  " York has had a special place in my heart for 25 years, a piece that has been missing since I left and teaching has always been my calling. Being able to come back to a place I hold so dear to my heart to work with and help guide future teachers is such a blessing. I am anxious to get started at what will be York University this fall."
