All area educators and YC alumni working in education or a related field are invited to attend a free workshop on Saturday, January 26, from 9 a.m. to noon. The topic will be “Breathe for Presence: Cultivating Awareness in the Mindful Classroom” and will focus on how to use meditation in the K-12 classroom.

“In order for students to receive the full benefits of classroom learning, teachers must embody wellness into their own lives,” says event coordinator Dr. Erin DeHart, head of the department of education at York College. The presenter of the workshop will be Casey Daugherty (Breathe 4 Change Educator Wellness Champion, registered yoga teacher, and YC alum). Daugherty will lead teachers through powerful strategies to “help us show up as our best selves,” said DeHart. Practices shared will also empower students to focus their minds, connect with their bodies, regulate their emotions, express their creativity, form meaningful relationships, and experience calm and relaxation techniques.

“This session will help put you on a path where students and teachers learn, grow, and enhance their own well-being together,” said Daugherty.

Attendees are encouraged to leave their devices at home, bring a notebook, and be prepared for light, mindful movement. There is no cost to attend this event, though registration is requested so coordinators can be sure to accommodate the group size with refreshments and other resources. Register (below) by January 23.
