York College was unable to overcome a four-run deficit as their season ended with a 4-3 loss against top-seeded Bellevue University in the Grand Rapids Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round.

The Panthers looked to mount a comeback in the final two innings as they had runners in scoring position with less than two outs. However, the Bruins were able to keep a goose egg on the score board as they forced inning-ending double plays in both frames.

In the bottom of the eight Billy Johnson (JR/Oakland, Calif) found himself at third base after a passed ball advance him over. A hard hit ball by Garrett Anctil (SR/Clovis, Calif) lined right to the second baseman who caught it and threw over to first to force out Michael Johnson (SR/Union City, Calif).

In the ninth inning the Panthers just needed a run to extend the ball game. A fielding error by the Bruins third baseman put leadoff hitter Josh Roman (JR/Newark, Calif) on first. A sac bunt by Nick Carney (JR/Pleasanton, Calif) advanced Roman into scoring position before Jose Bueno (SR/Oak Hills, Calif) earned a free base with a walk. Lamar Smith (JR/Rodeo, Calif) came up looking to move runners 90 feet at the least. However, a hard hit ball back to the pitcher turned the 1-6-3 game ending double play.

The third inning was the only offense York could muster in the ball game. The Panthers scored three runs off of a sac fly by Nick Stoll (SR/Fresno, Calif) and a 2-RBI double by Michael Johnson scored Timmion Hughes (JR/Vallejo, Calif) and Lamar SmithBilly Johnson tried to score from first on the play to tie the ball game but was thrown out at home on the play.

Ulysses Ramos (JR/Union City, Calif) picked up the loss as he allowed all four Bruin runs. He struck out three while walking five. Jaraad Salas (JR/Ewa Beach, Hawaii) pitched four innings of relief as he only allowed one hit and struck out five.

Lamar Smith and Michael Johnson each picked up two hits apiece for the Panthers.

York's season ends with a 46-17 record.
