York College welcomed several hundred guests to campus over its annual Homecoming and Panther Days weekend, October 20-22. Alumni returned to campus to relive their great college memories, while prospective students and their families visited to see all that York College has to offer.

The weekend schedule was extra busy including the Homecoming golf scramble, theatre department’s Mumbo Jumbo, alumni reception, chapel, a choir concert, volleyball match, and back-to-back wins from the women’s and men’s basketball teams.

The weekend also featured the York College Athletic Hall of Fame induction of the 1992 Men’s Soccer National Championship Team. (Video of this event coming soon!) The soccer game Saturday afternoon pitted many from the championship team along with younger alumni against prospective recruits and junior varsity players.

Homecoming Chapel was well attended as Scott Raab ’82 led the singing and Jonathan Straker ’00 gave the early morning’s address. Chapel was followed by a moving Concert Choir performance which included alumni joining students on the risers for the traditional closing songs. Following the concert, David Arterburn ’77 was honored as Alumni of the Year, and Kimberly (Dreher ’02) Hoyt was recognized as Young Alumnus of the Year. The Sendai mission team of Ben Berry ’01, Crimsen (Ruhnke ’00) Hanson, Joel Osborne ’00, and Jonathan Straker ’00 were honored with the Servant Leader Award. (Video of chapel coming soon!)

During halftime of the men’s basketball game in which they defeated St. Louis Christian College 131-57, the York College Homecoming Court was introduced. Pictured above are this year's king and queen: Trevor Lenear, a senior special education major from Bellevue, Neb., and Corrie McDonald, a senior psychology major with a biology minor, from Liskeard, Cornwall, England. Senior candidates for queen were Taylor Abraham of Buffalo, Mo., Jolene Herzog of Pullman, Wash., and Molly Reyes of Corona, Calif. King candidates were Grady Johnson of Great Falls, Mont., Levi Swenson of Benklemen, Neb., and Jacob Wirka of Wahoo, Neb. Attendants honored from the junior class: Clay Lube of Lincoln, Neb., and Kelsey Taylor of Oklahoma City, Okla., sophomores: Kyle Wynn of Waukegan, Ill., and Sydney Loa of Murrieta, Calif., and freshmen: Eric Lenear of Bellevue, Neb., and Morgan Miller of Ada, Okla.

Besides class reunions and suppers that went long into the night, weekend guests were treated to a Friends Reunion Concert in McGehee on Saturday. As part of the 1982 class reunion, Brett Osborne got the band together from his years at York and gave a very memorable concert that included their early 80s repertoire and plenty of nostalgia. (Concert video coming soon!)

Mark your calendars for Spring Panther Days and Songfest, April 5-8, 2018.
