Religion, Conflict, and the Medieval Sieges of Jerusalem
Dr. John D. Hosler is an associate professor of military history at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He received his bachelor’s and master’s in English and History from Iowa State University and went on to earn his Ph.D. in European History from the University of Delaware. An expert on medieval warfare, he has written several books, his latest “The Siege of Acre, 1189-1191: Saladin, Richard the Lionheart, and the Battle that Decided the Third Crusade,” being named a Best Book of 2018 by both the Times Literary Supplement and The Financial Times. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a Trustee of the United States Commission for Military History, and the current President of De Re Militari: the Society for Medieval Military History
