​York College senior Soren Tobey (soprano) presented a concert of classical favorites and musical theatre standards at her senior recital, Saturday, November 12.

​The concert featured modern selections as well as music of the Renaissance. Tobey performed in Italian, French, German and English in numerous styles, with pieces by Mozart, Schubert and Fauré, among others. Kay Magner accompanied her on the piano and Lance Tobey accompanied on guitar. 

In her musical theatre set, Tobey performed selections from Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella as well as a piece called “Bride’s Lament” from The Drowsy Chaperone. Nolan Henningson (baritone) performed with Tobey on the selections from Cinderella and The Drowsy Chaperone.  

​Tobey is a senior vocal performance and education major from Bellevue, Nebraska. While at York College, Tobey has been a dedicated member of both the music and theatre departments, where she has participated as an actor, soloist, and choreographer. She’s been a member of the Celebration Singers ensemble for four years as a performer, co-director, and choreographer. She has been in the York College Concert Choir for four years, where she also served as soprano section leader. Tobey’s involvement with the all-school musical Songfest was varied, as she served as a club participant, emcee and choreographer in different years. Recently Tobey competed at a NATS regional voice audition in Lincoln. In October, she starred in York College’s Homecoming musical The Secret Garden as Mary Lennox.
