![]() UPDATE 12/9: All performances for Cocoa and Carols are sold out. Thank you for your patronage! The York College Celebration Singers will perform their annual Cocoa and Carols program December 8 through 11. This year’s show is “Christmas Memories: A Family Portrait.” This family-friendly production will feature secular and sacred Christmas music with choreography and dialogue. Performances of the high-energy show will be held in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center (1026 E 10th St.) on the York College campus. Admission is $5 and includes cocoa and cookies. ![]() The York College Drama Department presented the annual Emerging Director One-Acts November 11 and 12. These student-directed plays were performed in Gurganus Hall in the Scene Shop Theatre. The first show of the evening was Spotlight, a comedy written by Buddy Thomas and directed by Kacey Fatuch. Spotlight follows four college seniors discussing the final theatrical production of their undergraduate experience. They show the audience what unfolds behind the curtains of the theatre. This show starred Ainsley Mountjoy, A.J. Jaramillo, Joshua Anderson, and Corrie McDonald. Emily Clark assistant directed. Director Fatuch is a senior theatre major and has served on the technical crew for 12 York College productions. This was her directorial debut. She is from Aurora, Colorado. Photos: Spotlight ![]() The York College chapter of Alpha Chi, the collegiate national honor society, inducted 10 new members at a ceremony in the Prayer Chapel on Thursday, October 27. Photo Gallery New members inducted included graduate student Kory Slaughter of Junction City, Kan. Slaughter is in his fourth year as an assistant coach for York College’s nationally ranked men’s basketball team. Also inducted were undergraduate students Alyssa Brown (Lusby, Md.), Brittany Eckerberg (Gering, Neb.), Abigail Gonzalez (Buffalo, Wyo.), Grady Johnson (Great Falls, Mont.), Caleb Magner (York, Neb.), Ainsley Mountjoy (York, Neb.), Robert Thompson (Vinton, Iowa), Andrea Way (York, Neb.), and Jacob Wirka (Wahoo, Neb.). ![]() York College hosted a one-act play festival on November 4 for five area high schools. More than a hundred students participated in this inaugural event, held in the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center. This exhibition event for competitive One-Act participants provided an opportunity for practice and feedback ahead of the competition season. While it was not a formal competition, awards were presented for some categories: ![]() York College senior Soren Tobey (soprano) presented a concert of classical favorites and musical theatre standards at her senior recital, Saturday, November 12. Video The concert featured modern selections as well as music of the Renaissance. Tobey performed in Italian, French, German and English in numerous styles, with pieces by Mozart, Schubert and Fauré, among others. Kay Magner accompanied her on the piano and Lance Tobey accompanied on guitar. |
