How to Master College Life

As a college Junior, I've spent time finding ways to succeed (and fail) at getting the best out of my college experience. So, I wanted to share with you my top tips on mastering college.
You would never guess what my top piece of advice is... Involvement!
Picture
Yeah, that's right. I said involvement.

I hardly have any free time because of all of the organizations I choose to be involved in. BUT, I found that when I am not as busy with activities I am not as productive as I can be. Like on days I don’t have track practice, I go to my room and nap for the rest of the day and then stay in that zone of laziness. On days I do have practice, I find that I try to make the 2-hour period between class and practice productive, because what if I can’t do my homework later?? If I know I'll be busy in the afternoons and evenings, I'll use my free time in the day to do homework and get ahead before I run out of time. This leads me to my next point...

Time Blocking
If I ever have a long period of time and nothing planned, but I know I have homework to get done... I have to find a way to block my time off for specific tasks I want to complete. It’s like I’m simulating my normal day of activities and getting things done in between, because I know if I have nothing scheduled I would be tempted to sleep all day or low key binge Marvel Movies.

Just do this
-Get out of your room- I already know I’ll knock out instead of doing hw so go somewhere that it is not socially acceptable to fall asleep.
-Set a timer for each assignment you want to get done.
-You need to decide what order you want to get each assignment done in so prioritize what needs to be done first, I usually start with what will take the most time to finish.
-REWARD SYSTEM. If you have a whole day of nothing, reward yourself with a snack, trip to Starbucks, or a nap whenever you complete an assignment it always works for me but make sure your rewards are also on a timed basis because you can’t be going off on tangents that’s how you be unproductive high key.

Prioritize
Okay it IS important to prioritize assignments and get them all done on time, BUT it is also important to prioritize activities and free time. My all-time FIRST priority is people, I always say yes to going out with friends or family when someone reaches out to me, then when I have free time and there isn’t anyone to be with- I dedicate that time to completing homework. It’s like I need a cushion, so I do my homework as soon as I can, that way I can say yes to hanging out with people later so decide what YOUR number one priority is and do homework on your free time, so you can always have time later to do whatever it may be.

Journal

This is literally the answer to every problem I have. I always journal about what I do each day, so I know I was productive and know that I balanced hanging out with people and doing homework AND I can balance all my thoughts and start each day fresh.
