Whether they were new teachers in search of direction or seasoned veterans in need of inspiration, the more than 70 people who attended the York College Bible Teachers Workshop came away with new ideas and resources to make their classrooms more effective.
The workshop, hosted on campus on Saturday, July 26, had five tracks, with sessions for teachers of cradle roll to adult Bible classes.
This is the second such workshop hosted by York College. The last workshop was in July 2012. The college plans to make it a biennial event.
Participants traveled from Kansas and Nebraska to hear the expert panel of speakers from the Christian Education Association and York College. Speakers included Lavonne Randolph, Lou Ann Jordan, Cecelia Bingham, Travis Akins, and Dr. Frank Wheeler.
Presenters discussed challenges as well as new approaches to communicating Biblical truths. The workshop was an opportunity to share ideas about what was working in classrooms and learn from other participants about the struggles and successes at their congregations. Many different types of curriculum were presented and reviewed, giving participants helpful direction as they make decisions for their ministries.
Rick Eldred, event organizer, is already planning the 2016 York College Bible Teachers Workshop. Eldred is considering additional ministry tracks, such as women’s ministry, song leading, and planning Vacation Bible School, for the next workshop. If you have suggestions for the 2016 workshop, please contact the York College Advancement Office, (402) 363-5664.
