York Campus Ministries, formerly known as Heartland Campus Ministries, opened its doors under the direction of Michael J. Rush on October 1st, 1995, as a financially self-supported ministry to students, faculty, and staff at York College. The entire ministry effort was accepted and guided as a mission opportunity by the Southside Church of Christ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to be overseen by their Elders.   However, on January 1, 1999, York College began to oversee the program and to financially provide a salary, a budget for office supplies, and a benefit's package for the campus minister whose role then shifted specifically to the students at York College. However, financial support for the operational budget of the ministry is still provided through the monthly donations of our Partners In Ministry, from various places in the world.  Unfortunately, on April 16, 2002, Mike Rush suffered a severe stroke and lost the ability to serve in this role.  During the 2002-2003 academic year, York College limped along without a formal campus minister, hoping that Mike would recover well enough to jump back into his former position.  However, Mike has not recovered to the point where he can fill that role, but York College looks forward to the day that he may rejoin the YC staff in whatever capacity he can.  (Click here for updates on Mike's health)  The 2002-2003 school year was a difficult one for the college without anyone filling the position of campus minister.  However, the 15 member staff of students that Mike had put in place stepped up and did their absolute best to continue the spiritual leadership for the campus.  When it was determined that Mike would not be capable of returning to the role of campus minister anytime soon, a search began for a new campus minister.  In May of 2003, Tim Lewis, an alum of York College and former classmate of Mike's accepted the position as York College campus minister.  Tim officially came on staff with YC on August 1, 2003 after serving 15 years as a youth minister, 12 of those years with the East Point Church of Christ in Wichita, KS.
