York College recognized eight students in chapel this morning as nominees for the Mr. and Ms. YC awards, presented annually at the All-School Banquet. Faculty and staff nominated these students based on their positive contributions across campus and their commitment to the mission, purpose and core values of York College.

Nominees include: Sarah Shafer, Taylor Abraham, Aubrey Tate, Ainsley Mountjoy, Grady Johnson, Caleb Magner, Peyton Horton, and Bryce Tyler.

Sarah Shafer

Sarah is a Special and Elementary Education major from Big Piney, Wyoming. She is a member of the basketball team and a York Campus Ministries intern. While at York College, Sarah received the following honors: 2015-2016 Women’s Basketball Team Captain, 2016-2017 Women’s Basketball Team Captain, Dean’s List, NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete, 2017 KCAC Teammate of Character, and 2018 KCAC Teammate of Character. She was also inducted into the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Next year, Sarah will be teaching kindergarten and coaching cross country in Sand Point, Alaska.  

Ainsley Mountjoy

Ainsley  is a Biblical Studies  major from York, Nebraska.  During her time at York College she has been a member of Omega Phi Social Service Club, York Campus Ministries, the York College Theatre Department and a student directed choir.  She has been active with all of these organizations serving as an Intern for York Campus Ministries and has received both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress Awards. Ainsley is also a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and Alpha Psi Omega Honor Society. She has been on the Dean’s List and is a C3 Award Recipient.  After graduation, Ainsley plans to work at a Christian summer camp and then pursue ways to combine ministry and theater.

Aubrey Tate

​Aubrey is both a Mathematics and Math Education major from Holland, Michigan. While at YC, Aubrey has been a member of Celebration Singers, York Campus Ministries and the Residence Life Staff. She has been active with the York College Concert Choir, serving as President and receiving the Outstanding New Female Award,  York College Theatre Department, where she has received the Best Actress in a One Act Award, the Traveling Children’s Theatre, and Songfest, where she was most recently a hostess. After completing her Mathematics degree, Aubrey will student teach in the fall and then look for a Math Education position.  

Taylor Abraham

Taylor is a Psychology major, with a minor in Biblical Studies,  from Buffalo, Missouri. Since beginning at York College, Taylor has been a member of the volleyball team, the York College Concert Choir, Celebration Singers, Theta Psi Social Service Club, the Residence Life staff, Student Association and York Campus Ministries, where she has served as an Intern for the last year. Taylor has been President and Spiritual Life Director of her club, as well as participated in Songfest in addition to her multiple appearances as Songfest Hostess. She was also nominated to the York College Homecoming Court and has received C3 Awards for her roles in the Concert Choir as well as on the volleyball team.

Peyton Horton

Peyton  is a Business Communications major from Centralia, Missouri.  During his time at York College, Peyton was a member of the track and field and cross country teams, as well as the York College Concert Choir, where he received the Outstanding New Male award, Celebration Singers and Kyodai Social Service Club.  Peyton has also worked with the Student Activities Board, the Ignite Excellence Campaign and the Residence Life Staff. Peyton has been a National Qualifier in both cross country and track, is a C3 Award Recipient and was selected for Songfest host.  

Caleb Magner

Caleb is a Vocal Performance and Music Education major from York, Nebraska.  Caleb has run four years of both track and cross country and was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. He was named a KCAC Champion of Character recipient in cross country and earned NCCAA All-American honors in track. He has been active in the York College Concert Choir where he serves as a section leader, Celebration Singers, the York College Theatre Department, York Campus Ministries, and was most recently a Songfest host. Caleb is also a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.

Grady Johnson

Grady is a Psychology major from Great Falls, Montana.  Grady has been actively involved in the York College Concert Choir, serving as both President and Secretary; Celebration Singers; Koinonia Social Service Club, serving as President, Treasurer, and Spiritual Life Director; York Campus Ministries as an intern;the York College Theatre Department and the Residence Life Staff. Grady is also a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, Alpha Psi Omega Honor Society, the Dean’s List, and is a C3 Award Recipient. Grady has been named Outstanding Male Member by the York College Concert Choir and Best Actor, Best Actor in a One Act, Best Supporting Actor by the York College Theatre Department. After graduation, Grady plans to  pursue a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Bryce Tyler

Bryce is a Business Communication major from Lincoln, Nebraska.  Since beginning at York College Bryce has been actively involved with the Student Activities Board, Student Government, Residence Life staff, the Presidential Leadership Institute, Songfest, Ignite Excellence Campaign, Traveling Summer Camps, York Campus Ministries, the track and field program and the York College Theatre Department. Bryce has also been a member of Koinonia Social Service Club, where he has served as President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Songfest Representative.  Bryce is also a C3 Award Recipient, a multi year member of the Homecoming Court, and was the 2016 Homecoming King. After graduation, Bryce hopes  to get a job working at York College, so that he can give back to the community that has brought him so much.
