York Jumps to No. 15Panthers rise in Poll, Johnson named MCAC Player of the Week The men’s basketball team moved up another spot in the Coaches’ Top 25 Poll after going 2-1 last week, 1-1 on the road. At No. 15 in the NAIA Div. II poll, the Panthers under Head Coach Delton Deal have earned their highest ranking in school history.
A native of Leavenworth, Kan., Johnson averaged 25.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.7 assists per game in the three conference matchups last week. In the 86-78 win over Haskell Indian Nations University, he scored 37 points on 15-of-24 shooting from the field. For the week, Johnson shot 66.7 percent from the floor (32-for-48). York is now 22-5 on the season. With Waldorf College's win over Bellevue University on February 12, the York College Panthers secured at least a share of the MCAC regular season conference championship and moved up in the polls to #15 nationally. York plays next at Waldorf on Friday, February 15 and will complete the regular season Saturday at Bellevue. With a win on Friday night at Waldorf, York could secure sole possession of the regular season championship; depending on the outcome of the final two games York College will possibly be the host of the MCAC conference tournament at the Freeman Center beginning on February 22.
