Fall Enrollment Numbers Reveal High Retention

Official enrollment numbers for the fall 2012 term reveal that the retention rate for returning students at York College increased over the previous two-year period to more than 80 percent this fall.

"Retention rates are an important indicator," says Shane Mountjoy, vice president for student development and dean of students. "The fact that our retention rate for students who are eligible to return is high means that students are happy with the education and experience at York College."

Enrollment for full-time students for the fall 2012 term is at 471. After four years of growth in student population, this number is slightly below last year's near record enrollment due to a decrease in the number of first-time freshman.

York College Online continues to experience growth, as it was recently granted full accreditation of programs. New majors and courses are being added each semester.

Enrollment numbers are tabulated after 12 days of classes are complete to comply with federal reporting requirements.
