Groundbreaking held for Campbell Activity CenterA groundbreaking ceremony for the $1.4 million Colis and Dolores Campbell Activity Center was held during the final chapel of the school year. The May 4, 2012 activity launched the beginning of construction on the 15,600 square-foot multi-use facility that is focused on enhancing student life at York College.
“We are pleased to honor the Campbells with this facility and with this event,” says York College President Steve Eckman. “The Campbells mean so much to this campus. The Campbell Activity Center will continue their legacy of impacting students. We are grateful for the anonymous gift that makes this all possible.” Following the ceremony, a reception was held to honor the Campbells along with their daughters, Pattie Sue Edwards(YC1975) and Betty Lou Knowles (YC1969), and other family. During the reception, Campbell joined Eckman and general contractor, Drew Jensen of Jensen Lumber Company, in signing contracts to begin construction. The target completion date is early 2013.
Located near the northeast corner of campus, the Campbell Activity Center will provide space for intramurals, a wide variety of student activities, special events and daily chapel. Groundbreaking and reception pics
