Track Brings Home Two National Champions!
Congratulations to Andrew Aragon and Shaylee Carlock on sweeping the shot put championships! Aragon, a redshirt sophomore from Delta, Colorado, threw 56' 4.75" (17.19m) for the championship and Carlock, a junior from Turney, Missouri, threw 44' 2.5" (13.47m). Caleb Smith finished 7th in the event and Aaron Beadle took 8th. On the women’s side, Patti Robinson placed 6th in the shot put.
Aragon and Carlock are also ranked nationally in the NAIA conference, with Aragon at 3rd and Carlock 11th. Both will compete in the shot put at the NAIA national competition, March 1-3.
The men's basketball team left on their weekend road trip with their back against the wall needing to beat College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo., in order to claim a spot in the conference tournament. York took care of business against Central Baptist on Friday night with a 92-83 win, but the do or die game was on Saturday. The Panthers responded beating Ozarks soundly 92-71 on their own floor to finish the regular season at 15-15 and 8-8 in the conference. According to Coach Delton Deal, York will be the #3 seed in the post-season tourney and play Central Christian this Friday at 5 p.m. in Bellevue, Neb.
York wrestlers made some noise at the NAIA Central National Qualifier with Jake McCoy finishing 2nd overall.Brad Carls and Miles Negley both took 3rd in the qualifier and Josh Lopez placed 6th. In two weeks, the team heads to the National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, with eleven qualifiers.
The softball team headed south for the weekend and split a double-header as their season is just underway. The baseball team left for Oklahoma on Friday and won both of their games on the road, beating Hillsdale Baptist 12-2 and Kansas Wesleyan 7-2.
