Faculty & Staff Honored
Humphreys named 2nd Milers
The volunteer couple has been well received by the YC family and will leave a large hole as they complete their two-year commitment. Joe has been teaching accounting classes and serves as the director of the college's Title III program. Jackie, who serves as director for York College Online, has been working on the development of online curriculum as well as teaching classes herself.
Earlier in the week, Dr. Mark Pearson, Associate Professor of Biology, was awarded Teacher of the Year by the student body. Dr. Pearson has been a part of the YC science faculty since 2006. His faculty page on the web speaks to his teaching philosophy, "I want students to leave my classes with a deep commitment and drive for excellence. My goal is to have students gain an unquenchable thirst to always look for the answers."
Loretta Goben, who has been working in the custodial department for the last 7 years, was voted by the students as Staff Member of the Year. Along with her hard work, Loretta is admired for her smile and warm greeting as well as her willingness to put up with her grandson Kellan, a YC freshman.
Roger Rine, Adjunct Instructor of Education, was given the first annual Faculty Excellence Award by his peers.This new award recognizes the contributions made to York College by adjunct and other part-time faculty.
As part of the year-end banquet festivities, faculty and staff were honored for years of service. Ron Shields, YC Bookstore manager, was recognized for 30 years of service.
