Special ceremony recognizes new president of York College
Steve Eckman was formally welcomed to his position as the twentieth president of York College in a convocation ceremony on Friday, October 2, 2009. State and local dignitaries, city officials, and the college’s board of trustees were among those in attendance as well as a majority of the YC family. Guests had an opportunity to visit with Steve and his wife, LaRee, at a brunch reception following the ceremony.
In addition to President Eckman's remarks, he received a charge from two campus representatives as well as the trustees. Janae (Wrich) Parsons, class of 2009, spoke on behalf of students and Tim McNeese, class of 1973, spoke for faculty and staff. H. Jarrell Gibbs, chairman of the college's board of trustees, presented a charge and offered a prayer for the incoming president.
The ceremony served as a time of re-commitment for the campus community and restatement of the college's aspirations. Eckman focused on the school's mission of transforming lives while preparing students for service to God, family and society. To read the full text of President Eckman's speech click here.
