New plans unveiled for York College athletic program
By a unanimous vote of the board, York College is reinstituting track and cross country for men and women in their 2009 fall athletics’ schedule. Along with the announcement, a search for a fulltime coach has been initiated to begin the recruiting process.
Jared Stark, York College Athletic Director, said, “In the past we had a part-time coach, but we’re committing a fulltime position to assure success as we reintroduce these programs.”
As with most colleges and universities, student enrollment numbers are directly affected by the athletic recruitment process. More than a third of the YC student body is involved in collegiate athletics, the majority of which are on a full or partial scholarship.
“Athletic programs are a key platform for student learning and faith development,” commented Stark. “The addition of these two programs and the increased scholarship offerings will strengthen our future enrollment as well as its diversity.”
