Legacy Alumni Reunion
July 15-17, 2008
The Legacy Alumni (pre-1956) were together once again on the YC Campus and had a wonderful time. Many brought photo albums and yearbooks from home, while others had newspaper clippings and YC memorabilia to display. The relaxed atmosphere of the Mackey Center was the perfect fit for reminiscing those past college days.
Two tee times were required Wednesday for the few that took on the summer heat to play a round of golf at the York Country Club. Some spectacular shots were witnessed on the day including Marilyn (Oakie) Shingleton's thirty foot par putt on 6 and Norman Menzie's chip-in for par at the 16th.
The Homecoming Banquet was well attended and enjoyed for its food, entertainment, and a festive 50's theme. Gary and Maxine (Miller) Bracken did a wonderful job as the MCs and provided a big portion of the decorations. Some of the light hearted fun was provided by Betty Jean (Riggs) Haney, Janice Menzies, Ramona (Burgett) Ellison, Marilyn Shingleton, Joyce (Klingman) Moore, Keith Megill, and the Brackens.
After a large breakfast buffet was served by the campus cafeteria staff on Thursday, Don and Ramona Ellison got the chapel program underway with the reading of YC Legacy Alumni who had passed away since the last reunion. Vernon Phelps followed the singing of "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" with an enlightening presentation of the Amistad Event, including many of our own Legacy Alumni connections with the ongoing work.
For those that remained a little while longer to share lunch together, plans for the next reunion were discussed. Instead of waiting three years before bringing everyone back together, it was proposed that a June, 2010 date should be considered... tentatively June 15-17, 2010.
Thanks again to the Brackens and Ellisons for oganizing this reunion and for all their hard work. Hope to see everyone back and many others in two years!
If you would like to help with the next reunion, please contact Sue Roush in the Alumni Office.
