The 2008 Challenge
YC pursues year two of an anonymous challenge

Anonymous can be a million dollar word—literally. A donor wishing to remain anonymous has issued a multi-year challenge to YC alumni and friends. Between January 1 and December 31, 2008, all “new” gifts will be matched up to $500,000.
This year’s challenge dollars are designated for student scholarships ($250,000), new programs ($200,000), and transportation ($50,000). “Providing an affordable option for families is so important especially in the current economic climate. The challenge gift combined with many qualifying gifts from alumni and friends will give students needed assistance for college and expanded options for their future,” said Dr. Wayne Baker, president of York College.
The 2008 Challenge – how does it work?
- An anonymous donor will match every new gift, dollar for dollar, up to $500,000!
- If you did not give in 2007, the entire amount of your gift or gifts throughout 2008 will be matched.
- If you gave in 2007, the amount of increase in your gift or gifts will be matched. For example: if you gave $100 in 2007 and give $500 in 2008, the anonymous donor will give $400, matching the increase.
- If you or your spouse works for a matching gift company, the matching gift will also count toward the challenge.

So remember, this year as you consider a gift to York College:
If it’s new, it’s worth two!
I want to give now!
