Food drive honors President Wayne & Darlene Baker

For the last six years the York College faculty and staff Christmas party-goers arrive with boxes and bags of gifts for families they will never meet or even see. Blue Valley Community Action’s food pantry has been the beneficiary of the York College holiday get together each year. Instead of a gift exchange, attendees are encouraged to donate food items.
This year the project was dedicated to Dr. Wayne and Darlene Baker, who will be leaving the YC campus soon as YC's President and First Lady. President Baker's retirement and new role as Chancellor of the college will be official January 15 with the arrival of President-elect Steven Eckman.
The couple began their work with York College in 1996 when they moved to the community from Montgomery, Alabama. The twelve plus years that Baker has been president mark the third longest tenure of the nineteen men who have served York College in this role. The Bakers plan to relocate to Alabama where the majority of their children and grand children reside. Their pending departure from campus and the community sparked organizers to dedicate in their honor this year’s food collection and holiday festivities.
