A
special memorial service was held
in chapel Monday morning for
students to reflect and pray on the fifth anniversary of the September 11,
2001 terror attacks. The program included the reading of the day's events as
they unfolded before our nation.
An emotional slide presentation was shown
that depicted many of the horrific scenes of the airline crashes as well as
the rescue efforts that followed.
That evening, students organized a
candlelit ceremony
in the McGehee Courtyard in remembrance of those
who lost their lives or were directly impacted by the events of 9/11.
The service included a moment of reflection presented by
History Professor Tim McNeese in which he
acknowledged many things have changed in
the past five years. He charged students to remember the victims of the
tragedy, but also to remember that much of who we are as Americans remains
unchanged.
By candlelight students sang
The Star-Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, and
Amazing Grace. Words to the songs were
printed on a program containing the 2,973 names of
the victims of September 11. |
