Youth Intern

 

  • TERMS OF SERVICE:  ?? May to ?? August 2008.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:  Has completed sophomore year and is planning to enter full-time youth ministry.  Candidate desires to serve in full-time youth ministry and wishes to "test" God's call while serving in Lafayette.  Is a team player with ministerial staff and several adult youth ministry team members.  Has a heart to reach, love, disciple and equip middle school and senior high students for Christ and His kingdom.
  • RELATIONSHIP:
  • Accountable ultimately to the Elders
  • Internship supervision and direction from the Youth Minister
  • Maintain “regular” office hours & communicate plans to secretarial staff
  • Meet daily with youth minister for prayer, support, encouragement
  • Meet weekly with entire church staff for staff meeting
  • Meet monthly with youth staff at a youth ministry team meeting (plan and conduct two meetings)
  • PURPOSE: Intern will assist in the following areas of ministry in partnership with youth minister:
  • To provide leadership in the high school and middle school ministries
  • To provide leadership to the adult youth ministry team members
  • To receive on the job experience, training and mentoring from an experienced youth minister for an effective career in youth ministry.
  • To have the opportunity to enhance the youth ministry by introducing new and creative ideas and by utilizing unique gifts and strengths.
  • To assist church staff with miscellaneous responsibilities as needed and as desired, including leading worship (if capable) and preaching (at least one time).
  • SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve in areas of giftedness alongside youth minister.  Encourage and equip students in areas of service and leadership.  Encourage adult youth ministry team members in areas of service and leadership.  Provide “up-front” leadership and teaching.  Teach at least one class weekly.  Have at least two personal visits with students and/or families each week.  Assist in weekly, monthly and yearly planning and preparation.  Assist in the planning and leading of weekly: youth groups, Sunday school, small groups, monthly: special events, service projects, and annual missions trip, camps and weekend conferences.  Participate in leading and planning worship assemblies.  Coordinate “amusement park” trip.  Evaluate and critique curricula.  Coordinate service opportunities approximately every other week.  Specific weekly assignments/calendar to be finalized.
  • COMPENSATION:  $2,500 for the summer, less withheld state and federal taxes and FICA.  Several families will provide housing and other families will provide many meals.
