Panther Volleyball Reloads for 2009 Season

In the spring of 2008, the York College Athletic Department was in a state of excitement, as the college made the decision to reinstate the Women’s Volleyball program.  In its initial season, after a single-year hiatus, York College alumna Charla Farrell moved back to help rebuild this greatly missed department in York College athletics.  Coach Farrell came to us from Abilene, Texas, where she was employed at Abilene Christian University.

Because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the team, the 2008 roster was built mostly on returning players from the 2006 season, as well as current members of the York College student body who had previous volleyball experience.  This was a great group of girls who had a fun year working to rebuild the program; because of their hard work, persistence, and great attitudes, the program was able to make huge strides to where it is today.  Having four graduating seniors, and numerous transfers, only four players remained on the roster for the 2009 season.

However, God has blessed the program with a great recruiting season, filling the roster with 14 players, with a mix of returnees, transfers, and freshmen.  The ladies have returned to campus to begin training for the upcoming season.  The Lady Panthers are looking forward to what the 2009 season has in store.
