by York News-Times Staff
The York College cross country team will have some returning experience for the first time as they are in their second season competing in the sport.
Panthers head coach Derek Kite said. “We have a very young team with a returning conference champion on the women's side of things.”
Kameryn Brewster returns as one of the team leaders with a conference title under her belt and a trip to Oregon for NAIA nationals. The sophomore will be joined by hometown Casper, Wyoming teammate Jordan Mestas. Kristin Tuttle, a junior team captain from Lincoln and
Wauconda, Illinois senior Elizabeth Eklund will also be returning.
“We have another three or four freshman girls who will round out a very solid squad,” Kite said. “We will be right up there with the other teams in the MCAC conference, giving us a shot at taking a full team to Oregon for NAIA Nationals.”
On the men's side, the Panthers return two of their runners, both seniors.
“James Tidei is coming out as a great leader, waiting for Zane Berner to come off a nagging hamstring injury,” commented Kite. “They will be joined by four or five strong freshman men to fill out our squad."
Kite is anxious to get his runners in the mix. The Panthers first meet will be the Concordia Invite in Seward over the Labor Day Weekend.
"I can't wait to get things underway in the 2010 cross country season,” he said. |
