York College names Ashley Johnston as new Softball Coach
Johnston was born and raised in Louisiana where she was part of a State Championship winning High School team at West Monroe High School in Shreveport. Johnston played college ball for Bossier Parish Community College for her first two seasons before signing on with NCAA Div. I Louisiana Tech University. After one season at Tech Johnston moved on to Northwestern Oklahoma State University where she finished her BA in Physical Education, and played against York College's softball team in a regular season game.
Johnston then moved on to Texas A&M University where she completed her master's work in Kinesiology. Her coaching experience has been limited, including a year as an assistant coach at Paris Junior College in Paris, TX, and one year as an assistant coach at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, CA.
"We hired a young energetic coach named Ashley Johnston, and we are confident that she is going to do a great job with the team," Luther said.
"We feel that she has a great attitude that will easily transfer to her team," Luther added. "She is very knowledgeable about the game and has big goals for her squad. We really hope that this job will give her the opportunity to step out and become a great head coach."
"I'm excited about this team. York College has had a great softball program so I'm excited to keep building on that," Johnston said.
