This department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in English. The degree program has three or four components: general education, the major, and electives. The department cooperates with the Department of Education to offer the Bachelor of Arts in English Education (7-12).

The Department of English introduces the student to a wide range of cultural achievement. Exposure to the currents and cross-currents of man’s social, religious, and intellectual experience enables students to appreciate the breadth of their cultural heritage. The department also provides cultural experiences for students which will enrich their personal lives, regardless of their professional goals. Students are encouraged not only to appreciate the works of others in language and literature, but also to be creative in those areas themselves. Courses in English are designed to help students see the interrelationships in all major areas of human thought and to develop within the student a continuing awareness of the richness and variety of human experience.
