Education Unit

"Why do I want to teach?" Our teacher education candidates are required to formally complete an answer to that question four times before they graduate. These candidates each have their own individual answer to that very important question. Maybe the question for you is, "Why choose York College Teacher Education?"

Consider the following top ten reasons:

  • We place all freshman Education majors in schools within their first semester at York College.
  • Opportunity to individualize endorsements and concentration areas for you to have an increased marketability.
  • YC students are involved in professional activities.
  • There is an active and professional involvement of our college faculty.
  • York College and area schools have small class sizes.
  • Field experience is available in qualified K-12 schools.
  • You will encounter 100 hours of school experience before student teaching.
  • Our degree plan is a 4-year program.
  • We have state, regional, and national accreditation.
  • A placement office is available to advise students after graduation.

Graduates of the York College Teacher Education Program will have, by graduation, completed a very real world experience called student teaching. This experience will provide additional learning experiences in which our student teachers will continue to grow professionally by developing their own styles of teaching while working with other teachers. York College is committed to the great task of teacher preparation.
