Norma Banning has served as the Children's Education Coordinator for the Northside Church of Christ since 2008. In this capacity she directs teachers, curriculum, and classes for ages Nursery through 6th grade. Before assuming this role, Norma had a variety of teaching experiences outside of Bible classes. These include being an elementary school teacher, director of student services at York College, and director of education at a Sylvan Learning Center. She has taught all ages in Bible classes. She and her husband, Sonny Banning, have been married for 46 years and have two children and three granddaughters.
Samantha Corcoran has taught children's Bible classes for nearly 20 years. While her day job is teaching engineering courses at Wichita State University, her passion is studying and teaching the history and geography of the Bible. She finds that seeing the real places and artifacts can bring the Bible's stories to life and give a different perspective. Samantha also brings technology into the classroom using current photos, videos, Google Earth, 3-D models, and other fun online resources. Samantha has been married to husband Ryan for 14 years and they have a 4-year old son Finn.
Diane Emery started teaching shortly after she was first married and describes herself as a great-grandma who still enjoys teaching. With her husband’s service in the Air Force, she has lived all over the world and taught Bible class in a wide variety of settings including Joy Bus ministry and working with all age levels except teens. Once, her class consisted of her two children, as the four in her family were the church where they were stationed in Italy. Diane has been at Northside more than 30 years. She and Glenda have been team teaching for many years. Pre-schoolers are her favorite.
Glenda Hall has been in the classroom since the early 1970s when she started as a helper in cradle roll. Her interest in teaching began as a teenager attending VBS. The teachers in her congregation made teaching look like so much fun that she wanted to be like them. After college, she taught whatever class needed a teacher in the congregations she attended, including a teenage girls class. After moving back to Wichita around 1980, she worked with the Joy Bus Ministry and later began teaching in the classroom again. Since 1990, she has mostly worked with children age 2½ to 5 years. Glenda has been team teaching for more than 15 years.
Ryan and Leann Woodard co-teach 5th and 6th graders at Northside. Their experiences with young people include a time working with girls, ages 7-18, at Carpenter Place in Wichita. During that time, they focused on developing relationships and showing Christ through a stable, loving home. After stepping down from that position five years ago, Ryan joined the board at Carpenter Place to help bring a house parenting aspect to the leadership. They love teaching the late primary grades as they see kids move from factual Bible stories to theological Bible concepts, and watch the development of faith and works through service projects and volunteer opportunities.
