York College hosted its annual RoundUp, a weeklong camp for senior citizens, May 18-24. This year, more than 75 people participated in the RoundUp fun, some traveling from as far away as Texas for the event.
Video RoundUp gives active seniors a chance to experience college life, as they eat in the cafeteria, stay in the dorms, and attend classes taught by YC faculty members. The theme of the week was “The Dirty Thirties,” with lectures presented by keynote speaker Dr. Robert Scott, former York College faculty member. Scott’s lectures explored many aspects of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl era of American history.
The week also included Bible, creative writing and exercise classes, as well as a class about culture, food and fun during the 30s; a dress-up theme dinner; old time gospel singing in the prayer chapel; talent show; and a field trip to the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. RoundUp 2015 will be held May 17-23. The theme and speakers are still being determined. For more information or to register, contact Gayle Good at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 402-363-5621.
